The Good Guys: Totally Watch it, k?

Now, we know that Fox airs shitty TV (Who wants to marry an incarcerated millionaire) and cancels the good stuff (Firefly ZOMGWTFBBQ, right?)  However, Fox aired a good show this summer and decided to keep it for the fall.  So either Fox is not as stupid as it has been in the past or I’m becoming stupid.

The Good Guys

The Good Guys is an awesome cop show set in Dallas.  It’s a brilliant spoof on all the cop genres and stereotypes.  Did you see Hot Fuzz?  Did you like it?  This is sort of like that.

Bradley Whitford, that dude with the receding hairline from the West Wing, plays an old washed-up cop who did something awesome once (saved the mayor’s kid from… something), so they have to keep him on the force, but he’s otherwise an old-school fuckup.  He lives in a trailer (hey, Lethal Weapon), has a mustache and hairdo reminiscent of the Beastie Boys “Sabotage” video… and is just plain hilarious how he’s stuck in the 80’s and refuses to use the “computer machine” in his pursuit to “bust some punks.”

Colin Hanks is Tom Hanks’ kid and looks just like him.  It’s scary and perfect how he plays the straight man with all his dad’s charm.  And the momma in me goes “aww Baby Hanks is doing so well!  I’m glad he didn’t turn out like that awful Lohan kid.”  He’s partnered with the fuckup because he corrected the captain’s grammar or other such nerdiness.

These two gentlemen work the “property crimes” division which usually results in some mock-worthy assignments (stolen pets, silly vandalism), yet they always stumble upon something bigger, usually resulting in “busting some punks” and the (female) chief being super-pissed that they made a huge mess, again.

Try it out!  It’s good, campy fun that will probably be cancelled by the idiots at Fox, but for now will start airing new episodes in September.  You might be able to catch up on the summer episodes in repeats before then.

  1. I want to check it out, is it on Hulu, I actually don’t own a TV. If not I’ll wait until it’s on DVD

  2. I will definitely check it out. 🙂
